Headquartered in Glendale, California, the company reported sales of $6.1 bn in 2016. It recruits around 7,000 people per year across its divisions. Over the past year, Avery Dennison has been streamlining its talent acquisition and onboarding processes through the implementation of innovative cloud-based solutions using the ‘SmartRecruiters’ and ‘Silk Road’ platforms – partnering with Alexander Mann Solutions’ consulting arm, Talent Collective, on selection and implementation. For Director of Global Talent, Tracey Allison, having a platform that facilitates global collaboration and offers transparency over the whole recruitment process is key to success. Why did you want to transform your recruitment system? We had an outdated applicant tracking system (ATS) that we’d been using for more than 11 years, so we were in desperate need of an upgrade. The system was extremely disparate with no single visibility over applicant tracking. There was no mobile optimisation, candidate experience was poor; it was clunky and unfit for purpose. So what was on your wish list? “The only way to appeal to a broader audience is through a highly integrated modern recruitment platform” We wanted global optimisation that could be customised to fit local markets; an upgraded candidate experience maximising social recruitment to attract and engage diverse talent, and ensure real-time data access and visibility for our hiring managers, recruiters and candidates throughout the whole recruitment experience. Quite simply, we needed something that was innovative, intuitive and interactive. We put out to tender, and found that SmartRecruiters (the ATS) and Silk Road (the onboarding system) ticked all boxes. We partnered with Talent Collective to provide system integration on implementation. How did you build the business case for implementation? In 2015, our then recruitment system informed us they were sunsetting. We knew we would have to scope and select a new talent acquisition system.
