Welcome Total Workforce Solutions: a challenge and an opportunity A t Alexander Mann Solutions, we believe that the future of talent acquisition and management lies in integrated strategic thinking: looking past interim talent needs to take a long-term and holistic view of the workforce. We are recognising the value in blending all talent types, whether permanent or contingent, under one approach, and other influential organisations are beginning to do likewise: in our second edition of Catalyst, we provide our insights on ‘total workforce solutions’ plus case studies from multinational companies including Deloitte (p12) and Philips (p14). Reframing the workforce involves embracing flexibility, diversity and inclusion, championing social mobility, and accommodating the needs of talented people. As our Director of Innovation Jerry Collier explains, “the industrial model of 9-5 with a few weeks’ holiday doesn’t cut it for a lot of people’’ (p8). For us, flexibility is our default and we share our approach through the eyes of power part-timer Laurie Padua (p34) and advice from our flexible working steering group (p32). For an overview of market trends in the inherently entrepreneurial Asia Pacific region, I encourage you to read our interview with APAC Managing Director Caleb Baker (p45), while Mike Clarke, Global Talent Acquisition Leader at Verifone, outlines his US-based company’s experience of developing a global talent acquisition strategy (p62). Showcasing digital innovation, this issue also features a focus on the evolving art of digital assessment; Avery Dennison’s investment in a streamlined recruitment platform (p56); and an interview with Mark Brayan, CEO of Appen – a truly 21st century organisation leveraging both the gig economy and artificial intelligence in order to train robots (p50). He is just one of the captivating speakers who will be addressing delegates at our Catalyst event in Singapore on 9 November. I hope you enjoy our second edition of Catalyst, which is packed with content and includes contributions from leading figures such as entrepreneur Arianna Huffington and philosopher Alain de Botton. It is available in print and digital format and can be downloaded from the Apple and Google Stores via our dedicated app. We look forward to receiving your feedback.
