‘Listening to learn’ and creating different entry-level paths
Gemma Lines
Head of Resourcing, Citi EMEA
Following a significant transformation, we are
in ‘listen-to-learn’ mode, curious about how
other regulated sectors enhance candidate
experience, where robotics help and what the
‘Uber’ model of recruiting might look like.
Working within a common global
framework for recruiting, nuanced locally as
required, we’re building a strong social media
presence providing flexibility to find passive
candidates and to shape a personalised
message for them; no mean feat for a business

that will hire close to 100,000 people a year.
We’re also automating where we can, to
free recruiters and sourcers to have quality
conversations with candidates; an internal
mobility team does the same with our people.
Diversifying our talent pool is CEO-led,
which is exciting and unnerving; we need
to create different hiring paths. Traditional
graduate recruitment programmes, which are
in the DNA of investment banks, can no longer
be the only route into our firm.
