finding a paying job. I passed these remarks off as negative and frivolous. 20 days later, 55 applications, 7 self-made“ hire me” sheets, countless miles biking, and far to many interviews and I was still left jobless with less than $ 500 to my name. There are many things you learn about maximizing what you have and the decisions you make when every decision becomes a“ this or that.” You learn to appreciate the smaller joys in life. Like finding a killer café or a good bottle of red in your price range.
A wise man once told me,“ small joys are all we have in this world,” and it couldn’ t be truer. A life is made up of defining moments. Ones that make you laugh or cry, cringe or smile, but one way or another these moments create who you are and who you become. They are the building blocks that you can let better you or take you 10 steps back.
Through any of my doubts grew a relentless fire. I was still convinced that I was exactly where I was supposed to be and that I hadn’ t been wrong about this dream. I learned that all good things in life are not handed to you, you work hard for them and even when you think you are at the finish line, there is usually more to run. But running is what keeps us going and growing.
I grew a lot as a person. I learned how to make friends again. I learned how to successfully use trains, planes, buses, taxis, and bikes to my advantage. I learned that it is absolutely worth leaving work an hour early to get to your favorite spot on taco Tuesday before the crowds. I found that it is always worth driving, walking, or biking to see the never failing sunset over the ocean. I learned that beach spots that disappear with the rising tide are the world’ s best-kept secrets. I learned that an adventure isn’ t always the best while you’ re in it but makes one hell of a story after. I learned that alpacas know whether you are giving them a genuine hug or not and that people from all walks of life have stories to tell and sometimes you hear them
