A PHOTO ESSAY WITH AUSTIN GERACHIS
IT’S 5:30 IN THE MORNING and your alarm
is blaring. You roll out of bed and throw on
a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt and walk
groggily to the front door. As you push open
the storm door you see the flags practically
at a stand still. You make your way out onto
the porch and look around. There are no cars
parked on the street, the street lights are off
for some reason or another, and you don’t see
anyone on either side of you.
There’s a certain type of feeling you get
when you see all of these things. The feeling
that most people run from, the feeling
that gives many a sense of uneasiness or
fright. But you, you thrive on that feeling of
solitude and emptiness. To you, the concept
of being alone is something that most people
take for granted. And as you stand on the
top of the porch and look around you can’t
help but smile at the dark and eerie little
resort town.
