Surf i n t h e
oeste region
The west coast of the Centro de Portugal is the perfect place
for surfing. With world-class waves, it is at the Supertubos
beach in Peniche that the Rip Curl Pro Portugal is held annually,
a stage of the World Surf League.
Capital of the Wave
It’s in the Oeste region of central Portugal that is situated the “Capital of the Wave”, Peniche.
A city that thrives on fishing and tourism, and whose notoriety in the world has greatly
increased due to surfing.
Peniche is the scene of national and international events, which hosts a stage of the world
surfing championship. There are thousands of surfers and lovers who come from all over the
world just to watch this event.
Any professional surfer knows Medão Grande Beach, known as Supertubos, where perfect
tubular waves form. A feat that competitors are looking for and not all beaches offer.
But not only in Supertubos can you find good surfing. Peniche has a range of high quality
beaches to practice this sport, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced surfer.
For beginners we suggest Praia do Norte or Prainha in Baleal. For more experienced surfers,
we suggest several beaches with unique characteristics: Almagreira, Belgas, Consolação,
Molhe Leste, Porto Batel and Praia Norte.
