Archaeological sites
• Archaeological Park San Andres: The
archaeological site San Andrés took
its name from the old hacienda where
it was. As owner of the San Andres
estate, the Dueñas family generously
endorsed access to the site to
successive
generations
of
researchers, starting in 1940 with the
first project on the site, led by John
Dimick. Even when the monumental
area of the site began to be visited by
tourists in the 1970s, the Dueñas
allowed the use of the site as an
incipient park managed by the
Department of Archeology of the
Cultural
Heritage
Administration
(predecessor of CONCULTURA), with
new research Led by Stanley Boggs,
Jorge Mejía and Richard Crane.
