A brief intro to feminism
by amanda neumann
Sometimes it’s hard to talk about feminism.
Actually it’s hard a lot of the time for a lot of
people, including me. In my attempt to create
a definition for feminism I wrote this brief
introduction to feminism.
So, what’s feminism?
That’s a very good question. But, to be
honest, there isn’t just one definition for
feminism. Feminism is a is a collective
campaign made up of individuals who
share a common goal. And that goal is…
equality! Feminism works to dismantle
the systems of privilege and oppression that
promote and sustain inequality—from gender
inequality to economic equality and
everything in-between.
What is the patriarchy?
Patriarchy is a social system in which men
are dominant because they hold authority and
power, specifically over women. Patriarchy
also values masculinity as a whole over
femininity. By this I mean that men, and
masculinity, are seen as naturally superior to
women, and therefor femininity.
