surrounding him. Kim could feel the malevolent spirit. She wanted nothing more than to be away from Eddie. She grabbed her bag and headed for the door. Glancing back she held his gaze for a moment and saw the dangerous man, the type to which she was drawn and vowed to look more closely. She ran down the stairs, climbed into her car and locked the doors. With shaking hands she put the key into the ignition. What frightened Kim the most was the vision she had standing at the door. Had he shown her what he was about to do or was it her vivid imagination? She was being pinned, face down on the leather sofa. Eddie was pulling down her pants and entering her with his unprotected penis. She could not move and she could hear him laughing at her helplessness as he spent his seed. She did not make it out the driveway before she pushed the door open and vomited. The pizza and sickeningly sweet wine cooler hit the pavement with force.
This day would never leave her, just as the day they covered Angela, or the day she watched Angela sign the papers refusing resuscitation. She smiled at Kim.“ Why would I want to come back and wait another day, a week or a month? Not like this. We had fun but I always liked the dangerous ones,” Angela said holding the pen in her shaking hand. Kim had nothing to say to her dying friend. She wanted to believe she was different, that she could recognize the signs. What she found out was, there is a difference between recognition and avoidance. Kim simply disappeared from Eddie’ s, George’ s and Lee’ s lives.
Eddie hit the shower, drank a couple more beers and watched Monday Night Football. Climbing into bed he fell into a restless sleep. The dogs chased him as he ran through mud that sucked his shoes from his feet. He woke soaking wet. His heart hammered in his chest and there was a sharp pain that passed. This time the dream remained long enough to accept, or at least feel, that this was a warning. He just had to figure out what it meant.
