GOM UK Announces Workshop for
the Casting and Forging Industries
“Industrial 3D Measurement Techniques in Casting & Forging Processes”
Using GOM’s ATOS optical 3D coordinate measuring
system, all surfaces of patterns, tools, gravity dies, sand
cores, sand moulds, and cast and forged parts can be
measured – non-contact and regardless of the object
size. Full-field surface measurements guarantee faster
first article inspection and targeted tool correction,
thereby reducing production lead times. For production
and quality control, both the measurements and the
evaluation process can be automated.
GOM UK supply optical measuring systems and
measurement consultancy, for 3D metrology and
component testing. Our ATOS and ARAMIS camera
based systems and software are used to scan and/or track
movements of full field surfaces and points.
GOM UK will be hosting their first casting and forging
workshop on Wednesday 04 October 2016 at the Gauge
and Tool Makers Association (GTMA) based at Seco
Tools (UK) in Alcester.
The free event is an opportunity for design engineers,
pattern, die and mould makers, as well as specialists
from quality assurance and production, to gain insights
into how optical 3D metrology is integrated into modern
casting and forging processes.
Alongside user presentations, GOM UK’s team of
specialists will give live demonstrations to present
the latest developments in 3D metrology including
measurement and inspection software. Attendees will
also be invited to take a guided tour of the Seco Tools
workshop including a machining demonstration.
Industrial 3D Measurement Techniques in Casting &
Forging Processes
In casting and forging industries, 3D metrology supports and
speeds up all phases of the sand, pressure die and investment
casting processes; from pattern and die construction to mould
and core making, right through to first article inspection
reports and optimisation of CNC machining.
GOM measuring systems collect highly accurate scan
data, used widely throughout industry, particularly
within automotive, aerospace and consumer goods sectors.
The data is used for reverse engineering, dimensional
validation and simulation verification.
