what 'reality' is constructed/framed about your issue?
The reality shown in this cartoon is that the Republicans are standing firm in their stance
the government's problems stem from President Obama and that the government shutdown is his fault.
analysis:
The cartoonist uses labeling to point out some possibly not so obvious figures. Senator Ted Cruz and Senator Mike Lee are both republican (Jason, 2014) senators that were working against The Affordable Health Care Act. President Barack Obama, a democrat, is the person being pointed out as the problem in this image. Although this is what appears to be the situation, the cartoonist actually portrays President Obama as the victim and the senators as the aggressors. The cartoon is sympathetic towards the president in the fact that he is taking the blame when, in fact, the Republicans are also to blame.

Title of Cartoon: Government Shutdown
What action is taking place in the cartoon? What is the context?
In the cartoon, all the national parks are being closed because of the government shutdown. When the government shut down, so did all the national parks.
which side is supported by the framing of the cartoon?
this cartoon is a little less clear with who it is supporting. However, it says "by the order of the president" which tends to show that this cartoon is more supportive of the Republicans and their blaming of President Obama.
what evidence can you give that shows the cartoonist supports one side or the other?
Blaming president obama: gov't shutdown
one side or the other?
The cartoon shows the "purple mountains majesty" being closed. Purple Mountains Majesty is usually representative of America as a whole, therefore suggesting some exaggeration that all of America is being closed because of the President
What "Reality" is constructed/framed about your issue?
The reality for this cartoon is that the parks were closed during the government shutdown. However, many American's are confused about why this was necessary (Ball, 2013).
analysis:
Although not exaggerated in the actual drawing, this cartoon is exaggerated in the message. Yes, the national parks were shut down, but not all of America was. The victim in this cartoon is the public while the aggressor is made out to be President Obama.
