HONOURS’ BOARD
QUEEN’ S CUP RESULTS 1960-2015
his year will be the 56th running of The Queen’s Cup, which was
first presented to the Club by HM The Queen in 1960. Some of the
biggest names in the game have added their moniker to this trophy
and the base reads like a history of the modern game. One name
stands out in recent years – Adolfo Cambiaso. He has been on the winning
side more times than any other player and is bidding to add to this tally in 2016
with Dubai. Other players who have also dominated in this match include the
former England team captain Howard Hipwood and the Foxcote patron Hon
Mark Vestey, who registered five wins in the 1970s and ‘80s. Gonzalo Pieres snr
registered four wins and his sons, Gonzalito, Facundo and Nico are now playing
at the top of their game to overtake this tally. Gonzalo jnr and Facundo already
have added their names and it will only be a matter of time before Nico does
the same. Another name that leaps out is HRH The Prince of Wales – winning
with Les Diables Bleus in 1986. This is one better than his father, HRH Prince
Philip, who finished runner up with Windsor Park in 1964 and Friar Park in 1966.
