FIRST YEAR FORTY

It

has been another amazing year for the Carp Maxx Team . Through hard work , dedication and an endless passion for pushing the limits , we have reached many milestones individually and as a team . One of these landmarks is the story of Katie Pelkey ’ s first year of carp fishing . Before this past spring , she had only fished for pan-fish on occasion . Over the winter she began learning to tie her rigs and familiarized herself with carp gear and tackle . Starting early in the spring she began fishing with Kevin Murphy , and it wasn ’ t long before she caught her first carp . Soon she was catching carp regularly , and over the course of the spring and
summer , she broke both her common carp and mirror carp Personal Best several times . Severe drought conditions made fishing in the mid-summer through the mid-fall challenging at times . We all had to adjust our tactics and move around to many areas to stay on top of the big carp movements . One excellent 24-hour session late this fall several of us fished as a team , at one of the several swims that I had been putting a lot of work into throughout the fall . The overnight bite produced a new PB for Katie . Her first “ 30 pounds carp ”. A stunning 31 lbs . 6 oz . Common . She was ecstatic , and we were all so excited to witness and be a part of such an awesome moment for her .
Little did we know that as she and Kevin were packing up to leave , that one of their rods would get a final run with an epic beast on the end of the line . As I netted the fish , I knew without a doubt it was well over the magic number . Katie completely shattered her PB with a monster of a common weighing 42 lbs . 5 oz . An incredible moment and we are all super stoked for her and what ’ s in store for the Carp Maxx Team in 2017 . movements .
