We've all found ourselves wondering what has happened to common courtesy on Sri Lankan roads. Be it the over use of high beams, failure to signal when changing lanes or suddenly entering the main road from a by lane, these bad manners have become an expected part of driving, and I hate it. But then I had a thought. Could the cars themselves solve the issue?

New cars are coming with auto-dimming headlights, lane depart–ure warning and automatic braking—not just at the high end either. These "smarter" cars could in fact do the simple tasks that many drivers don't seem to be able to comprehend. I even saw a start up on Indiegogo for an automatic turn signal system (oh, if only). Though it'll be a while before we see enough cars with these features on the road to make a difference. Though, it would be nice if we didn't need to rely on a computer to perform common human courtesy.

Driving is supposed to be fun, not

a constant test of reflexes and near death experiences. Perhaps, one day.
