South Korean Automaker Kia Plans To Enter the Indian Market

The renowned Korean automobile manufacturer Kia Motors, which is a sister company of the South Korean giant Hyundai Motors, has recently announced its plans to open up a new manufacturing facility for its vehicles in India.

The company, which is the second largest motor vehicle manufacturer in its native country, has pledged to invest more than $1.1 billion to build a state of the art factory in Anantpur, in Andhra Pradesh. The manufacturing plant, which is expected to cover an area of 536 acres, is projected to churn out more than 300,000 vehicle units each year upon its completion.

Kia is planning to produce its first batch of vehicles to the Indian market using this new facility, by the end of 2019. The company said that it hopes to announce two compact cars catered to India. One of them is expected to be a compact sedan while the other is thought to be a compact SUV.

However, the company didn’t specify the exact models that these compact vehicles might represent. Nevertheless, a couple of Kia branded vehicles were recently spotted being tested on Indian roads. While we might not be able to know until Kia decides to make the big announcement, we can still have an idea on what to expect from them in the near future. These might include brand new versions of Kia’s popular models, such as the Kia Sportage, the Kia Soul and the Kia Rio Sedan.
