Vijayabahu Motocross 2017

One of the biggest motorsports events in Sri Lanka, the Vijayabahu Motocross, was successfully held at the beginning of April at the Vijayabahu Motocross circuit, which was located in Boyagane. This year’s event was organised as a collaboration between the Sri Lankan Army’s Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and the Sri Lanka Racing Riders Association.

The organisers of the Motocross 2017 stated that this year’s event was an absolute success, with riders from around the country coming together to demonstrate their talents to a roaring crowd of spectators, who got the opportunity to have a thrilling once in a lifetime experience. Nevertheless, the 2017 event, which was conducted for the 15th consecutive year also saw a rider from Japan entering the occasion to compete with 120 other local riders.

The Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Military, Major General N.U.M.M.W Senanayake RWP RSP USP psc, attended this year’s event as a representative of the Commander of the Sri Lankan Army. Major General A. Kariyakarawane USP ndc, who is the Colonel of the Regiment, welcomed the chief guest to the 2017 event.

The Vijayabahu Motocross 2017 concluded as an entertaining day for thousands of spectators. One of the most talented riders in Sri Lanka, Isahan Dasanayake, who was also the winner of the last years Vijayabahu Motocross championship managed to display his capabilities to the audience with flying colours.

However, Sameera Premarathne, the Rider who represented the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment managed to pose a strong challenge to Isahan who dominated the first part of the race. As a result, Isahan was not able to maintain his lead due to Sameera’s seemingly never-ending challenge throughout the day. At the end, Sameera Premarathne came out victorious winning the 2017 Vijayabahu Motocross Championship trophy, bringing glory to his home regiment’s team.
