One of Sri Lanka’s premier racing events, the Sri Lanka Super Series, is off to an exciting start as the rising young racing stars, Ashan Silva and Pramuka Sesath, took home honours at the Katukurunda Circuit Meet 2017, which was held mid-March at the Katukurunda tarmac in Kalutara.

The event was inaugurated after an eye catching opening ceremony that had to be conducted under an intense sun. However, spectators showed up in thousands to witness this year’s electrifying race.

Ashan Silva, who was backed by the Sri Lankan racing legend Dilantha Malagamuwa managed to outperform all his opponents in the SL GT Cars up to 3500cc engine class, while Pramuka Sesath took the crown for the best rider for his outstanding performance at the tarmac.

Hansika Abeysinghe who represented Hellibees Racing should also be mentioned for her exceptional performance, defeating Shushmi Solanki to emerge triumphant at the Standard Motorcycles up to 125CC (4T) mono cylinder event.

This year’s race was comprised of fifteen different events and was held with the participation of some of Sri Lanka's best drivers and riders. Nevertheless, the SL GT up to 3500cc and the SL-H up to 1600cc were arguably the most popular events among the local spectators.

The 2017 event was organised under the leadership of the Lions Clubs International District 306 C1, the Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers & Riders (SLARDAR) and the Asian Motor Racing Club (AMRC).
