IN HER OWN WORDS I felt like someone who was let out of prison and is seeing everything for the first time! I didn’t realize how small or narrow my world had been until I had the stimulator turned on and I went for a walk. I saw the sun setting and the clouds turning a pinkish color. I watched a family of quail crossing the street. I looked down and my arms were swinging back and forth just like they are supposed to do. Before, I don’t think I looked at anything beautiful surrounding me. I just focused on the actual painful task of walking. I heard no birds, I didn’t really see anything. It hurt too much to enjoy what was around me. Since I had the first surgery I have found myself not once, but twice, wiping away tears of joy that just seemed to fall at will while I took my walk. - 29 -
