Alex’s caring role increased as his parents
got older. When he reached out to the
forum, he had hit his lowest point
When I first posted on
the Carers UK forum I was at
rock bottom. I was reaching
out in desperation that
someone would understand.
When I logged on the next
day and read the replies I
was blown away. It felt like I
had a team of therapists on
tap. I’ll never forget that.
On top of her ongoing
mental health needs, my
mother was diagnosed
with the most aggressive
type of lung cancer there
is. She rapidly deteriorated
physically. We had to have
a special hospital bed
delivered and had a package
of care. Partly due to my
mother’s mental health
condition I had to play a big
part in helping to maintain
a good relationship with the
care workers.
