COACHING

The power of coaching

Coaching can support you with your personal development to navigate the future of work

It was interesting reading the recent National Careers Week report on the Future of Work . Setting out clearly that we all need to take responsibility for our own learning so that we can develop the necessary skills as we go through our careers . This is a process of life-long learning – partly due to the fact that we will have longer working lives and different jobs rather than a job for life .

It also reports that the key skills required for us all moving forward include communications , creativity & innovation , critical thinking , entrepreneurship , growth mindset , problem-solving , self-awareness and teamwork .
All areas that we need to think about , and areas that working with a coach can support you with as part of your own personal and professional development .
Indeed , it is often areas such as self awareness and growth mindset that people spend the least time thinking about but can actually be very powerful in our development and in supporting our own performance .
Self-awareness is the ability to see oneself objectively and honestly , without any filters . It is being aware of what is happening inside you and how they impact things happening outside you .
Growth Mindset is the belief that a person ’ s most basic abilities can be developed through dedication , hard work and practice .
Working with a coach helps to bridge the gap between where you are now , to where you would like to be – and will enable you to get there far more effectively , and much faster , than if you tackled your goals and ambitions alone .
Coaching is not about telling you where you should be , and what you have to do to get there . In total contrast , coaching is a supportive and collaborative partnership that will help to refine your goals both personal and professional , leverage your existing strengths and unlocking your potential .
Working with you on a one-toone basis , a coach allows you to think openly , develop greater selfawareness , amplify your skills and positively challenge and change behaviours that might be holding you back .
It ’ s a way of boosting performance , by developing your skills and abilities further , while also helping to identify , and overcome , specific issues and challenges . The results of which will empower you to achieve your goals .
There are many different reasons why individuals and businesses choose to benefit from a coaching partnership . Whether it ’ s motivated by a professional ambition , such as preparing for a larger role , career transition and business growth – or a personal development goal , perhaps to increase confidence and self-belief , enhance communication skills or to manage conflict .
Either way , more and more people are engaging with coaches , with the aim of taking positive action as they learn and grow and work towards their goals .
