Graduating from university can be an exciting and rewarding moment . After years of hard work , it is a time to celebrate what you have accomplished , the experiences you have had , and the people you have met along the way .

However , for many it can also be a daunting experience – not knowing what the next steps are , what options to consider and what support is available . This year , these concerns are even more prevalent as we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic .

That is why the Department for Education and Office for Students have worked together to produce the Graduate Employment and Skills Guide . The Guide aims to support this year ’ s graduates on their next steps . The guide has been developed in partnership with leading sector bodies , including Universities UK , the Institute of Student Employers and the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services , as well as a wide range of graduate employers .

‘ Although physical work experience opportunities have been limited as a result of lockdown , think about other ways you can build employability and life skills .’
The guide brings together a wide range of tools , resources , and advice into a five-step plan , which will help pandemic graduates consider their postuniversity choices , identify and develop their critical skills , gain professional experience , and further their career while maintaining good mental wellbeing .
As everyone recovers from the global pandemic , it is essential that we look after our own mental health and wellbeing . That is why the guide contains practical advice about managing stress , how to bounce back from failure when applying for jobs , and how to practice self-care whilst developing your career .
It also provides specific information for international students who may want to consider remaining in the UK for work or study and the various immigration routes available .
Graduates will provide critical skills and talent that will be vital to the UK ’ s economic recovery from COVID-19 .
