INTERVIEWS
Phone Interview
Employers often call as a first or early point of contact to collect more information about you and pick a time for the in-person or virtual interview.
Make sure your personal voicemail is set up and that your mailbox is not full( so that a message can be left). Keep your voicemail box greeting short and professional in case calls are missed.(“ Hello, you’ ve reached [ your name ]. I’ m away from the phone right now. Please leave your name and number and I’ ll return your call as soon as possible.”) Any messages left in your voicemail box should be returned within 24 hours, even if you’ ve accepted another position. This shows politeness and helps maintain a positive relationship with that employer. Be enthusiastic but professional when talking on the phone.
Information to gather during phone conversation:
• Person calling to schedule interview
• Company
• Address
• Day and time
• Phone number
• Name of interviewer
• Where to report for interview
• Acceptable interview attire( business casual / formal, workplace attire, etc.)
