Cardiovascular Institute 2022 Report | Page 2

Dear Colleagues ,
We are pleased to present the 2022 annual report for the UAB Cardiovascular Institute ( CVI ). Much has changed since we last published an annual report of our accomplishments in early 2020 . The COVID-19 pandemic has created unique challenges and new opportunities to advance the care for patients in need of our services . Reflecting on our experience , we are extremely proud of the effort our teams put forth to respond to the challenges and to maintain their unwavering commitment to our patients .
Included in this year ’ s report are updates on many of our clinical programs . As evidenced by the data , the quality of care provided by our faculty and staff remains at a high level . We continue to be recognized by U . S . News & World Report as one of the top CV programs in the country , and many of our programs are ranked among the best , both regionally and nationally . One achievement of note highlighted in this year ’ s report is our certification as a Primary Heart Attack Center by The Joint Commission , making UAB the first and only hospital in Alabama to earn this designation .
Our outcomes have been sustained , even as our clinical programs continue to experience tremendous growth . We are pleased to share that , despite the initial impact of COVID-19 on our clinical volume , much of that volume has recovered , with a few exceptions . Being a high-volume center allows us to continue offering a full spectrum of clinical services and therapeutic options – from preventive and general cardiology care to complex cardiothoracic surgery and heart transplantation – while also providing our faculty with the training and experience necessary to develop a high level of expertise in their respective fields .
As we have in the past , we would like to acknowledge the hundreds of team members whose efforts are reflected in this year ’ s annual report . Without their unwavering commitment to excellence , none of our accomplishments would be possible . On behalf of our team , we remain incredibly grateful for your interest in our programs and for your continued collaboration in caring for patients in Alabama and beyond .
