We are delighted to have Cardiff University’s
continued support as title sponsor for the
15th installment of the Cardiff Half Marathon
and beyond as we look forward to welcoming
25,000 runners onto the streets of the Welsh
capital on October 1st. But whether you’re a serious marathon runner
or just having fun competing against friends
and colleagues it’s important to remember that
this event has massive potential for raising
funds for a number of charities and that is why
Cardiff Council is proud to support it.
Our Festival of Running kicks off what promises
to be memorable weekend on Saturday 30th
September. More fun-runners than ever
before will get a taste of Wales’ largest
mass-participant event alongside another full
programme of mile races, food and drink and
family activities, making the Cardiff University/
Cardiff Half Marathon an action-packed
weekend of athletics and entertainment for
everyone. Thanks for taking part, enjoy Cardiff and
good luck!
This year’s Cardiff Half Marathon course is
unchanged from 2016 to give runners a chance
to break their personal bests whilst being
hassle free for residents as the event continues
to grow and raise millions for charities.
As always, we are indebted to our sponsors,
strategic partners and charities that support
us, as well as our invaluable volunteer team.

Councillor Bob Derbyshire
The Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor of Cardiff
Cardiff University Welcome
We are a research-led university and events
like this also allow us to carry out translational
research. Last year, we undertook research
with novice competitors to discover what
motivates people to run. This and other
projects will help organisers of mass races to
attract a wider range of entries in future thus
improving the nation’s health. This year, we will
be conducting analysis of the event from both
an economic and environmental perspective,
which will contribute to improving future races.
Whatever your involvement, good luck!
Professor Karen Holford
Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Cardiff University
Last year Cardiff University
became the title sponsor for
the Cardiff Half Marathon.
The partnership be tween
Wales’ leading university and
the country’s biggest mass participation event
enabled us to demonstrate our commitment to
the communities of Cardiff and Wales, through
knowledge exchange projects that directly and
indirectly help those who do not traditionally
engage with the University. The Vale of Glamorgan Council
is pleased to support the
Cardiff University/Cardiff Half
Marathon for 2017. Good luck
to all participants, I hope you
have an enjoyable race and
raise lots of money for your chosen charities.
We’re delighted to be building on the success
of last year and extending our commitment to

Cardiff has once again proven to be
a destination for elite sport in 2017
as we welcome a record-breaking
number of runners and spectators to
a sold out Cardiff University/Cardiff
Half Marathon.
But now it is time for road running to take
centre-stage after an incredibly exciting 12
months for Welsh athletes.
CARDIFF HALF MARATHON
and alumni form #TeamCardiff, a group of
runners who continue to raise funds for
our vital research into major health issues
such as neuroscience and cancer. Others
give their time to join the much-appreciated
band of volunteers, the ‘Extra Milers’. Race
participants will receive sports massage from
our physiotherapy staff and students after the
13.1 miles and the media utilise the excellent
facilities at our School of Journalism, Media
