Hon. The Lord Mayor of Cardiff Cardiff University Welcome We are a research-led university and events like this also allow us to carry out translational research. Last year, we undertook research with novice competitors to discover what motivates people to run. This and other projects will help organisers of mass races to attract a wider range of entries in future thus improving the nation’s health. This year, we will be conducting analysis of the event from both an economic and environmental perspective, which will contribute to improving future races. Whatever your involvement, good luck! Professor Karen Holford Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Cardiff University Last year Cardiff University became the title sponsor for the Cardiff Half Marathon. The partnership be tween Wales’ leading university and the country’s biggest mass participation event enabled us to demonstrate our commitment to the communities of Cardiff and Wales, through knowledge exchange projects that directly and indirectly help those who do not traditionally engage with the University.
