CARDIFF HALF This year, Alfie is looking to get young people
active so our 100 Club, nicknamed ‘Alfie’s Army’
will be made up of teams of 17-21 year olds from
all over Wales.
100 Gareth Thomas commented: “We’re having a
rebrand! Over the last two years we’ve seen
women kickstart their health lifestyles and
achieve things they never thoughts possible.
This time we want to get young men involved
as well and I can’t wait for the challenge!”.
MARATHON
Each year our 100 club takes a group of
first-time runners from zero to hero.
Our 100 Club initiative returns for its third year
in 2017, part of our commitment to use Wales’
biggest and best mass participation event to help
improve the health and well-being of the nation.
In conjunction with Welsh Athletics and the
social running programme Run Wales, we’ve
again donated 100 spaces in the race to people
who are new to the sport and have never taken
part in a half marathon before.
In 2016, Welsh rugby great Gareth Thomas
trained our 100 Club, a group of now infamous
women who featured in the BBC Wales
television series ‘Alfie’s Angels’ to complete
the Cardiff Half Marathon.
You’ll be able to follow their training journey
when a new series of ‘Alfie’s Army’ returns to
BBC Wales this autumn, as well as cheer on the
teams out on the course on race day.
Meet one of Alfie’s Army…
