Barnardo’s – Charity Partner
Barnardo’s is delighted to be the charity partner of the Lloyds Bank Cardiff Half Marathon. At Barnardo’s we believe in children and transform the lives of some of the most vulnerable children in the UK today, thus realising our founder Dr Thomas Barnardo’s dream of a world where no child is turned away from the help they need. Today, we work with over 200,000 families across the UK, helping them to build a better future. We have a broad range of over 900 vital projects across the UK. These projects provide help and support for children and young people affected by today’s most urgent issues: poverty, homelessness, disability and abuse.
Barnardo’s work in Wales
Barnardo’s Cymru helps more than 18,000 children and their families in 88 specialist projects in local communities across Wales. One invaluable project is Seraf, a service which works with children and young people who are at risk of, or abused through, sexual exploitation. Seraf is a Pan Wales Service. This Service is the only one of its kind in Wales, and followed two years of research and campaign work by Barnardo’s Cymru to highlight the level of need in Wales and the lack of support services for these vulnerable children/young people. The Seraf Service works in partnership with the Welsh Government and multi agency partners to promote a better understanding of the systems needed to protect children and young people at risk of sexual exploitation.
What your sponsorship money could achieve: £15 a month – could provide five
victims of sexual exploitation, who have fled their abusers with nothing, with an emergency essentials pack.
£30 – could buy three disadvantaged children a stationery set and calculator so that they can study properly. £250 – could pay for a year’s worth of support group sessions for four young people whose parents misuse drugs or alcohol. £500 – could cover the weekly cost of running 10 community youth groups for children in deprived areas. 20
