Don’t be afraid to haggle. This doesn’t mean that a person has to be made of
iron and scream their way to a deal. It just means that a lot can happen if
someone just asks a simple question: “Is the price negotiable?” If the answer is
no, then there’s no harm done. Move onto the next question. If the answer is
yes, then the person in question can save hundreds of dollars on their
purchase, and maybe more.
Make sure the car is still the dealership’s responsibility, at least in part. Once a
purchase is made, the car belongs to its new owner, this is true. But, there
should be basic assurances from the dealership, and in the contract, that if
there’s anything wrong with the car that the dealer didn’t tell the new owner
about, it’s usually their responsibility to fix the problem.
And, that’s it! The best advice when buying a new car is to be diligent,
persistent, and thorough. That car is, after all, going to be around for a while!
