Existing opportunities . Cameroon ’ s legal framework enables the development of projects based on a self-production model or via independent producers .
The State has conceded some of its activities related to this sector to ENEO Cameroun , a local public limited company held by Energy Cameroon Coöperatief B . A . of Groupe ACTIS and the State of Cameroon . Through four concession contracts signed in 2001 , the production , transport , distribution and sale of electricity have been entrusted to operator ENEO Cameroun ( ex AES SONEL ). Amendments No . 2 in 2015 and No . 3 in 2018 entrusted the transportation of electricity to Société Nationale de Transport d ’ Électricité ( SONATREL ).

Authorisation required for self-production facilities with an installed capacity of more than 1 MW and developed to offset a shortfall in the local electricity supply ( no maximum installed capacity threshold identified ). A concession is required for any company engaged in industrial production intending to develop and operate electricity generation and transmission activities between its production sites and its industrial sites .
Concessionaires for industrial purposes must make available an agreed quantity of electricity to the transmission system operator for supply to public or private purchasers .
