He says the Jazz Festival is also set to
become an annual event, and he has
just registered his own communications
company — Matomela Communications,
named after his clan name.
And between all that, he still deejays.
“Music is my true love,” he confides.
He still gets hired to deejay and emcee
at weddings, events and parties, and at
venues like TZ & SD Lounge in Sobantu and
at Stonehouse Pub in Smeroe, Edendale.
“I’m a township boy,” he grins. “On the
weekends I like to spend time with my
friends.”
Zuma was born in Edendale and has lived
in the city his whole life. Today he lives in
Imbali, but plans to move back to Edendale
soon, once the new business takes off.
He is a strong believer in the “City of
Choice”
.
“Pietermaritzburg is conducive to raising
a family,” he explains, “but as a city we
have long ago shed the ‘Sleepy Hollow’
reputation. PMB has come alive.”
“PMB is strategically positioned. We are
only 45 minutes from Durban by road and
an hour from Johannesburg by plane.
“And lots of things are happening now:
aside from the established events like
the Comrades Marathon, Midmar Mile,
etcetera, we have the Jazz Festival, the
Mandela Marathon, the Golden Horse
Casino, Cubana...”
Cubana is another of his favourite
venues.
“Just go there on a Friday or Saturday
night,” he says. “Hey, it’s buzzing! People
of class go there. It’s a great networking
opportunity.”
Maybe we’ll look at it for our next
edition...
