Powerhouse Science Center Inspire, innovate, invest for our future O ne of the Sacramento region’s most significant and exciting projects breaks ground in May with an anticipated opening in 2020. The Powerhouse Science Center, repurposing a long-idle historic landmark building, is rising along the Sacramento River with a mission of engaging and inspiring people of all ages to explore the wonders, possibilities, and responsibilities of science. The new center will serve as a model for 21st-century experiential education centers in science, technology, engineering, math, and space, helping to prepare the next generation workforce. With vital funding from SMUD, title sponsors, and unanimous support from Mayor Steinberg and Sacramento city council members, construction now begins on the 50,000-square-foot campus.
