I
t’s almost time for the 2019 Sanlam
Cape Town Marathon on Sunday 15
September 2019, and if your nerves
are shot, I can assure you that you’re not
alone!
You see, this will be my first marathon, and although
I’m a seasoned MTB rider, this road running thing is definitely another kettle of fish
altogether. I’ve been fortunate enough to get some amazing training advice from
our two Fedhealth Dream Chasers coaches, Marcel and Brendan, and have put in
the work. But sjoe, the concept of running 42.2km in one go is quite something to
get one’s head around. And feet!
What I have really enjoyed over the last months however is the great camaraderie
that the running community shares. I can also totally see how folks become
addicted to the “runner’s high” and wanting to see how far they can push their
bodies and minds. Fedhealth came on board as one of the Sanlam Cape Town
Marathon sponsors last year, and we love being part of this world-class event.
Exercise plays a major part in maintaining good health through out one’s life, and
since we’re in the business of health, we encourage our members to participate in
events such as these.
I am especially proud of our six Fedhealth Dream Chasers who’ve been working
so hard and who will be chasing their goals on race weekend. Bonani, Nkine,
Kamohelo, Hengie, Marcia and Loyiso, the extended Fedhealth family is rooting for
you. You’ve got this!
Good luck to everyone participating in the 2019 Sanlam Cape Town Marathon.
See you out there on the road.

PA has over the past years
witnessed a massive
growth of the Sanlam Cape
Town Marathon and as a federation, we
welcome our local, national and international
athletes to the Mother City. We salute the
Sanlam Cape Town Marathon Executive, the Event
Office, and the vast number of volunteers who provide an excellent service and
experience to the athletes and spectators that line the streets of Cape Town. These
individuals ensure that our athletes can participate in a safe environment.
As a partner, we are extremely grateful for everyone’s participation in this iconic
global event and would like to thank all runners as your participation not only
brings great families and friends together, but also aids all the charities that benefit
from your kind donations, so we urge all of you to celebrate Africa’s only IAAF Gold
Label status marathon by giving back.
We are committed to working together with all our partners, contributing towards
the development and transformation of our sports in our province and with the
Sanlam Cape Town Marathon aiming for IAAF Platinum Label status, which raises
the status of the event to an even higher status, it is an opportunity to implement
the values and principles our sport and our organisation believe in.
Thank you to the sponsors, partners and charities that contribute to the organising
of this wonderful event. We would encourage our athletes to enter early, train hard,
and consistently reap the benefits of completing a great marathon.
Enjoy the scenery, enjoy the run and have fun.

L
ast year we witnessed a
spectacular presentation, delivery
and performance from South
African athletes. Our runners performed
beyond our expectations by winning the
men’s race, while the ladies also came close to
clinching it.
We are excited that despite the tight economic climate in the country, Sanlam
decided to continue to sponsor the Cape Town Marathon which incorporates the
ASA SA Marathon Championships once again. We salute Sanlam for sharing their
earnings with the sporting community of Africa and are happy that they are getting
their return in investment.
On the side of organisation, ASA is looking forward to seeing another great delivery
of the event by Western Province Athletics and the Race Organising Committee
working hand and glove with the City of Cape Town, the Police and the motorists
along the streets of the Mother City. We have no doubt that the day will be a
success.
We wish all the best to the athletes participating in all the distances. May the best
men and women prevail on the day.
