Run4Change RUN4CHANGE LEGACY PROGRAM CHARITIES, HEALTH, PEACE & SUSTAINABILITY Imagine the symbolically powerful pillars that support the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon’s Run4Change Legacy Programme: Peace, Charity, Health, Sustainability and Development. The Run4Change Legacy Programme is there for all runners to make a difference, and in doing so support Africa’s only International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Gold Label-status marathon. CHARITIES As part of the RUN4CHANGE Legacy Program, the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon recognises over 50 charities and through the event provides a platform for these charities to raise funds, increase their profile, and expand on their support and audience. USED RUNNING GEAR: Please bring your old running shoes and kit. You may drop off at “SACANRUN” drop off zones at the EXPO and TOG BAG drop off points at the start of race. RUN4PEACE On receiving the Lifetime Laureus Award, Nelson Mandela commented, “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire, it has the power to unite people in a way that little else does.” The aim of #Run4Peace is to use running as a vehicle to bring together diverse and divided communities; to forge familiarity and friendships across communities, cultures and classes; and to use our examples and actions as runners to personify courage, inspiration, determination, respect, friendship, equality and excellence. The peace flame begins its journey in Nelson Mandela’s Robben Island cell. It’s brought to the start by close friend of Mandela, former Springbok captain Francois Pienaar, to the sound of Johnny Clegg’s Asimbonanga. This is a gooseflesh South African moment as thousands of South Africans join in the singing as we welcome runners from all over the world. The race creates the platform for peace. The runners take their peace pledge on the start line by using the international PEACE DOVE symbol. RUN GREEN Being Climate Neutral and voted the greenest marathon in the world, the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon is committed to building substantiality and greening into the event. We thank you for helping us achieve this. ZERO WASTE TO LAND- FILL POLICY The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon has undertaken the policy of a zero waste to landfill. All waste will be processed, recycled or re- used. We encourage all athletes to be part of this program commit to RUN GREEN.
