Here are some tips from the Cape Coral Economic Development Office:
Before you lease or buy commercial space:
Contact the zoning counter at City Hall( 574-0553) to confirm proper zoning, parking space and whether a change of use is involved.
If so, a building permit and additional impact fees may be required, so contact the Building Division( 574-0546).
Call the Fire Department Division of Life Safety( 242-3264) for a free site inspection.
Before you move in:
Register your LLC, corporate name or fictitious name with the Florida Department of State at SunBiz. org. Apply for state licenses for real estate, cosmetology, mortgage broker or restaurant at MyFloridaLicense. com / dbpr. Use the same name on the application that you registered with the Department of State. A customer service representative in the Licensing Office( 574-0430) can help confirm what you’ ll need.
Apply for a Business Tax Receipt( BTR) and a Certificate of Use( CU) at the zoning counter at City Hall. A zoning customer service representative will tell you what inspections you’ ll need. Call the
Fire Department( 242-3264) for the final inspection.
If a change of use is determined, or if you plan to do more than minor repairs to the space, apply for a building permit at the Building Division( 574-0546). If substantial work is planned, a contractor must submit the permit application and other documents. The applicant must be present for inspections.
