Parents may choose among several nearby schools within their neighborhood zone; the child might not attend the closest school if a different school within the zone is selected. Parents with children new to Lee County must visit a school assignment office for registration and assignment. Students new to Cape Coral but coming from elsewhere in Lee County may have other choices. This needs to be settled with the school assignment office.
To register a child, you must show photo ID. The following are required for school registration: birth certificate; child’ s Social Security card; proof of residence( utility bill or receipt, lease agreement or statement from landlord, mortgage acceptance letter); name and address of former school; proof of custody; health examination within past year or scheduled examination within 30 days of enrollment. Also required is a Florida certificate of immunization, issued by private doctors or clinics and free of charge from the Lee County Health Department or the Family Health Centers of Southwest Florida. Driver’ s licenses and license plates are obtained at Lee County Tax Collector’ s offices; one is located in Cape Coral. Documents required as proof of identity include proof of address and Social Security number. New residents exchanging a valid out-of-state license for a Florida license must pass vision and hearing tests, as required. Appointments are suggested, and can be made online or by calling.

Your veterinary clinic can issue annual rabies vaccinations and tags for your animals, which are required for a license. If your vet doesn’ t sell county licenses, you may get one from Lee County Animal Services. Dogs, cats and ferrets are required to wear rabies tags.

Health Centers
Residents can choose from a number of hospitals and other care facilities in the region. Cape Coral Hospital offers 291 beds, all in private rooms, more than 600 physicians and 1,000 dedicated volunteers. Part of the Lee Memorial Health System, it offers medical and surgical services, including an emergency room, stroke management, diabetes programs, gynecology and obstetrics, pediatrics and a special care nursery.
Lee Convenient Care, also part of Lee Memorial, is a walk-in center for urgent care.
