Following the recession that hit Southwest Florida in late 2007,“ 2014 was the turn-around year and 2015 is getting back to a reasonable market,” says commercial real estate expert Phil Deems.“ Rents and building values have increased.

The Cape is starting to experience a shortage of homes on the market and more people interested in buying here. Last year,
there was a big uptick in single-family home sales— a 41 percent increase from 796 closings by July 2014 to 1,124 in July 2015. The median sale price also increased from $ 114,900 to $ 140,000, according to a multiple listing services analysis by the Florida Realtors.
