The Fish River marathon first took place
in 1982 with 77 competitors but has now
grown to be one of the most popular canoe
marathon events in the world, with over
1000 competitors taking part each year -
making it one of the top five world’s biggest
canoe marathon events.
The Fish River
The Fish River Canoe Marathon is
a two-day event taking place on
the Fish River in the Eastern Cape
Province of South Africa, and
covers a total distance of 81.8
kilometres (50.8 mi).
