Access is not only regulated at all cultivating and retail facilities, but state laws also require the product is secure at all points during processing, storage, and transportation. In fact, every state requires the regulation of access to cannabis, along with documented standards for how that’s maintained. So how do growers, transportation companies, dispensary owners and operators keep cannabis inventory secure?
Finding the Right Level of Protection
Leading rolling door manufacturers have created new products that can protect a wide range of cannabis facilities from forced entry. From robust rolling doors that meet stringent U.S. Department of State Standard for forced entry SD-STD-01.01, Revision G (Amended) to refined and aesthetically pleasing metal grilles that protect against storefront smash-and-grab attacks, there are a diverse group of products that work in tandem to ensure safety and security at potential points of entry.
“When it comes to access control, third-party tested and certified high security doors are an excellent solution for a variety of facilities across the cannabis industry,” explained Heather Bender, Strategic Marketing Manager, CornellCookson. “While these products were initially designed to protect U.S. Department of State and military personnel at embassies around the world, they are now used to protect other sensitive buildings, including pharmacies, critical infrastructure and now cannabis facilities,” she added.
Davuluri explains that building owners often focus on front doors, glass storefront windows and transactional areas when it comes to safety and security. What they don’t think about are deliveries, loading docks, critical infrastructure areas and storage facilities.
“Would-be criminals often keep track of drop-offs and shipments. This is especially true for dispensaries but also for warehouses and growing facilities,” said Bender. “That’s why it is critical that these facilities install advanced products that protect areas that are far beyond the front door.”
