Why? There are several reasons. Chief among them are that their economic conditions have made the governments of the South American nations more open to new industries and investors therein and the extremely low costs of labor and land. Additionally, climatic and astronomical reasons make South America very well-suited for growing cannabis. How? Cannabis is what is called a “long night flowering” plant. What this means is that the majority of cultivated varieties (cultivars) of cannabis require long nights (>12 hours) to trigger and maintain the phyto-chemical reactions which induce them to flower. The closer you get to the Equator, the closer you come to day length remaining at 12 hours per day all year round. This means that you can rely on natural sunlight to flower your crop under and as long as you extend day length over 14 ½ hours. In other words, you can plan production to be year round, with all the advantages that the forecastable process of cultivating and manufacturing gives.

A team is only as good as the players on it. GrowSmith has expert members that cover facility design, cultivation, processing, operation management, and product manufacturing (Gard’n Clean), and culminate over 200 years of real-world experience.

GrowSmith sent the Oregonian derived team Jeromy Bruce and Michael Wolf Segal first to evaluate the growing site in Jujuy first hand, followed by Jordan Jones a few months later to support cultivation.

Jeromy Bruce is GrowSmith’s Chief Operations Officer for South America. Mr. Bruce is a multi-generational farmer who has over 20 years of experience growing cannabis—everything from early medical-style grows to multi-acre commercial operations covering indoor, greenhouse, and outdoor cannabis and hemp production.

Michael Wolf Segal is a visionary strategist and self-taught photobiologist whose ability to find and maintain networks in cannabis is second to none.

Jordan Jones is a cultivator who, even at a young age, has been vetted in some of the most trying

circumstances in commercial cannabis. Jordan is supporting cultivation in Jujuy.

Jeromy and Wolf arrived in Jujuy, Argentina on May 11th, 2019. They met up with the Argentine partner group from Cannava SE and went out to Finca del Pongo to scout the property and grow environment. One of the first things the team did was grab a handful of dirt to give it the “squeeze test. ”
