Greetings and a warm welcome to our 18th issue of the CANNAINVESTOR Magazine! We couldn't be more excited to bring our magazine to cannabis investors, analysts, financial media and cannabis executives.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions in January rescinded The Cole Memorandum that adopted a policy of non-interference with marijuana-friendly state laws. In the past the Fed's had a hands-off approach to marijuana and let the States adopt their own legislation and policies. Going forward, federal prosecutors across the country will decide individually how to prioritize resources to investigate and prosecute marijuana possession, distribution and cultivation in legal states. This new policy creates more uncertainty and risk for the industry.
The new policy reflects the United States uncertainty regarding the legalization of marijuana. We think legalization will happen eventually. However, we see the problem lies in the time frame in which marijuana will be legalized, not that it won't be legalized. Canada's head start in the legalization of marijuana and significant cash balances from institutional investors makes Canadian cannabis companies the worldwide market leaders. Will U.S. companies be able to compete? Will it be too late?
Thank you for letting us keep you informed and assist you in your research of this new and emerging market. We appreciate your support and are so happy to have you as a reader of the CANNAINVESTOR Magazine!
