CASE STUDY 2 FROM ARBITRAGE TO Albatross

For those of you who have been with me from day-1 on this journey I truly think of you as extended family or friends. I do truly mean that. When at expos and conferences and complete strangers seek me out to discuss what I a year or more ago … I cannot wait to treat them to a coffee and have a discussion.

One topic that comes up over and over is how I refer to M&A as “near arbitrage” whereas others refer to as just arbitrage. The other topic for discussion is my preoccupation (not usually the word they use but it works) with exposing the hucksters.

In reverse order, there are so few sources, such as CannaInvestor Magazine, for unbiased information covering the entire cannabis industry. Typically, paid promotors repost existing news releases on their own letterhead and disseminate. They naturally filter what news is disseminated. Comingled in those releases are their own writing and once you make note of who their clients are then the pattern reveals itself. Typically, they only write positive articles that relate directly (or indirectly) about their clients and they avoid any coverage of anything that may challenge, compete, or be seen as elevating the risk exposure of their paid clients. These sources still provide useful information so long as you recognize them for what they are. One down from the paid promoters are the hobbyists.
