My background is in the Canadian military. I was a member of the Canadian Special Forces Group, Joint Task Force 2. Following that, I worked in various security positions at the United Nations for 15 years, ultimately as a head of global security.

In my time at the UN, I contracted security companies around the world. I found, as a general rule, they over-promised, over-charged and under-delivered.

I also saw many of the flaws in their approach. When my wife Renée and I decided to come back to Canada to start our own security company, we knew what we needed to do to deliver high-risk security services and guard against black market penetration.

• First, we recruit the best, primarily former armed forces personnel and police officers as security agents/guards.

• Second, we train and equip them well. Our guards undergo rigorous firearms and other training. We value all of the people who work for us. It is a point of pride that you will never see a 3|Sixty guard in a polyester uniform. A guard working a 12-hour shift has to be comfortable to be effective.

• Third, we pay our people well. Keeping people and property safe in high-risk situations is not a minimum-wage job. 3|Sixty pays well above industry minimums to attract and keep the best.

I also draw on my military training and my 15 years’ experience at the UN to help ensure that we meet the highest ethical standards.
