My own position is that yes there are those looking to take advantage of an industry that is stuck on day zero; however, here is where I diverge. If we accept the basic premise of this formula Stock price = discounted future earnings per share all things be equal then perhaps we need to revisit how we predict future earnings. That is to say, in theory that formula is a basic truth much like straight line supply and demand graphs and perfect competition is a basic truth of most Economics-101 courses. Reality may be far too complex for such equations and relationships but the basic premise holds true.

There will always be those who believe that the world is flat; that we never landed on the moon; that vaccinations cause Autism, and in things that go bump in the night. Much like a vibrant ecosystem, we all know what happens to those that cannot or will not adapt to major changes to their environment.

The time to invest may be more “now” than ever. Just as one can feel a storm is in the air long before the first raindrops falls, one can sense a dramatic shift coming in November to a more progressive composition within the house. Every month we caution you about the risks of following paid promoters, social media, and bulletin boards and this recent Forbes article highlights 5 companies that, in its opinion, should be avoided because they are “outrageously overvalued”. Some of the usual suspects immediately parroted this article. It is not my place in these pages to challenge or prop up the author of that particular opinion piece although there is a certain irony as sometimes such articles remind us of the idiom “the pot calling the kettle black”.
