We try to avoid politics but let’s be frank – no matter your political leaning we can all agree on two things:

1) The current Federal Administration’s position has stunted growth and investment in the industry (including hemp);

2) A political party wants to be elected or re-elected.

It would not be surprising to see Republicans seeking election or re-election publicly declare a position on rescheduling marijuana that is out of sync with the present white house position. It would also not be surprising for the White House to signal that it is open to a due process to facilitate such rescheduling. The majority of Americans live in states where there is some degree of legalization or decriminalization and that will only grow as will public support to rescheduling marijuana (medically at first one may presume).

To be completely out of step with the majority of the population typically is an obstacle for any political party. As education and research continues to mount combined with public opinion, change is inevitable. Time = Change. As time marches towards mid-terms and beyond, change must happen. They always say that there are only two things in life that are certain – death and taxes. I would add a third – change.

The President’s announcement later that same day may not have been the rescheduling of marijuana that I suggested above but the last paragraph speaks volumes and in all fairness this is the first step needed towards the gradual finish line that is the rescheduling of marijuana. He may still do so before the mid-terms or at least suggest it will be reviewed.
