Pump up your Potential

You need an exciting vision, a long-term goal, to grab investors’ attention, and appeal to their self-interest. This is the strategic foundation upon which everything is based. You’ve also got to articulate that vision in under a half- minute, then support it with a great story.

Fact of life: Most venture investments are failures. (At least 80%) That’s why investors are always looking for the potential killer that could make up for all the other poor choices they’ve made. That’s why it’s absolutely essential to create a narrative that portrays your company as a future "market leader.” At least give your investors some hopeful expectation — and not to do so is pretty dumb.

Momentum is everything

When you’re closing investors, momentum is totally important. Once you’re getting checks, move quickly to close as many more as you can. No investor wants to be first in — they want to be the last in and the first out. And so if you start closing fast, keep going. Other investors always follow.
