In Canada, we look to the more progressive states such as Colorado and others in order to see what we may expect to observe here, in Canada, now that cannabis is legal from coast to coast to coast. Reduction in alcohol consumption being one such obvious marker. A sad statistic in America that is being mirrored in Canada is the opioid crisis. Deaths in Canada are on the rise and fentanyl alone accounts for at least 12 deaths per day in Canada (remember, California has a larger population than all of Canada).

The United States recognizes it has an opioid crisis – indeed, an opioid epidemic. This is not a USA only tragedy – as I referenced Canada earlier and in fact is a Global Opioid Crisis. Some things, even terrible things, are universal and it truly is that plain and simple. So let’s once again look to Canada for a moment. Although we think of cannabis as being somewhat homogenous, some LPs in Canada are garnishing a reputation for their own “niche”. By example, when one thinks of epilepsy (children’s in particular) in Canada one tends to associate that with Tilray Inc (TLRY). Aleafia Health Inc (TSXV:ALEF; OTC:ALEAF) one tends associate that LP with the battle against Opioids. Here are a few great links and remember that opioid addiction knows no borders and as such the research and findings at Aleafia may be directly transferrable to the USA.

The real news may be found in the US itself. You may recall when Forbes and others predicted that the major stock exchanges would not allow cannabis companies to list we said of course they will … and of course they did. This is no different and just a few headlines tell the story on cannabis with respect to treating opioid addiction and even replacing opioids.
