In my previous entry, I discussed how I was looking forward to the future. I would like to think my previous self would be happy with how far we have come since then. My journey has brought me to all kinds of different interesting moments with cannabis. I found my true passion for this industry rather recently (compared to some) and I could not be more excited to enter this community of incredible indi-viduals. I have spoken to individuals on all parts of the spectrum; from people who have never seen/used cannabis to cannabis professionals who have ventured out to start their own million dollar businesses from scratch. It’s been an incredible journey, to say the least. If this is how the future is going to keep progressing, I will eagerly be waiting for every step onwards.

When I first began this whole cannabis exploration, I had little idea of what it entailed. I had previously only been educated in the health aspect. I had no idea that there would be professions outside of health and research interests. There is so much going on with this plant that no one could have ever expected such a growth and demand for cannabis knowledge. As more money gets involved in these areas of work, the topic becomes more and more prevalent in news and conversation. Cannabis has propelled itself into the lives of many by this point.

This New Year’s Eve, I looked into what seemed to be a reflection of my previous self. I spoke to a couple (mid-30s) from North Carolina traveling to NYC for the holiday. A completely different background than what I had been (am) exposed to back at school in California but a very similar mindset from where I had started when I started my work with cannabis. I spoke to these two for quite some time and I ended up telling them my current interest in the cannabis industry. The look on their face when I told them I was studying neuroscience with a cannabis interest is something that will always bring me back to why I want to work in this field.

What different spectrums of people and exposures we all experience over the course of our lives seem to define and make us who we are. This couple I met sparked a discovery in myself I had previously unknown. I learned how passionate I was about this topic as we spoke for the few next hours to come. I had no intention of spending my New Year’s Eve discussing the regulatory policies of cannabis in North Carolina but that’s how my new year started. Absolutely enlightening to learn about how the other side of the country views the substance that would be legalized in what was a few hours in the state of California.
