Hemp has the ability to absorb (or sequester) carbon from the atmosphere at a rate 4x’s faster than trees. By some estimates, an ordinary hemp field can lock up (or fix) as much as 110 kilos of carbon per cubic meter from the atmosphere. Early research and analysis also suggest that a field of Hemp the same size and in the same location as the Sahara Desert could absorb more carbon than we are currently pouring into the atmosphere.

It’s unrealistic to assume that such planting is possible, but I’m optimistic that a multitude of small and large Hemp farms across the planet simply cannot hurt. If we tip the carbon scale back to a more balanced state, even if only in our own backyards, everyone will be able to breathe a little easier.
