The Hub of Helping End the Opioid Epidemic Begins

Helping End the Opioid Epidemic (HEOE) is a community based non-profit working to evaluate current approaches for addressing the opioid epidemic starting in Huerfano and Las Animas counties of Colorado but with the intentions of national and international reach. Their mission is to collaboratively design and implement multidisciplinary projects that improve the quality of life for those impacted by the opioid epidemic through education, prevention, scientific research, data collection, treatment and recovery strategies.

They are a versatile committee composed of medical and scientific doctors, nurses, investors, attorneys, government officials, lobbyists, and entrepreneurs who have come together with a combined passion as one to counter the opioid epidemic. HEOE believes it is of merit to incorporate observational studies determining the effectiveness of Cannabis to reduce patient usage of opioids, therefore reducing the potential for overdose.

Their intention is to incorporate community outreach events staffed with a physician writing medical Cannabis recommendations for persons struggling with opioid addiction and abuse.

In addition, they believe in the innovative approach to utilize telemedicine and home healthcare to reduce costs and increase access for opioid addiction treatment in rural communities. La Clinica would be a hub treatment center offering a variety of services ranging from group counseling sessions to various non-conventional treatment options such art and equine therapy. HEOE joined the Colorado Consortium for Prescription Drug Abuse to take part on a policy level as well as reaching out to various community organizations and personnel to gather additional preliminary data and insight on prevention and treatment in rural communities.
