"The use of alcohol and tobacco in this country are now at historic lows among young people. We can expect to see similar results in a regulated marketplace for marijuana as well."

If we can set aside the propaganda rhetoric we have been raised on and focus on science and verifiable research data, we can do a lot to help educate our youth. After all, there are real concerns to share to young people about how cannabis use can detrimentally affect the developing brain.

In the end, children will make decisions that their parents and other people who love them will not agree with despite what they are taught. What we can do is to teach them the truth, that marijuana can be a very effective medicine but that real concerns exist about early use. We can help them remember that involvement with the law can be both potentially dangerous and create a burden for them that can interfere with school, getting a job, etc. Let’s be determined to be honest with them. They will be best prepared to make decisions based on real concerns and our credibility will remain untarnished by the lies some prohibitionists would prefer us to tell.
