Our little family was forever changed in 2013. We live on the Delaware Coast and had a wonderful summer swimming and fishing off our family dock. I, Janie, started noticing changes in the symmetry of our 7 year old daughter, Rylie’s face in July. We began taking her to an assortment of physicians and heard every theory possible: blocked tear duct, sinus infection, allergies, etc. Things continued getting worse until her little face began to become distorted at a much faster rate. My “mom-gut” knew it was serious so I dropped my toddler off with a friend then took Rylie and her twin brother straight to AI duPont Hospital for Children. A computerized tomography (CT) scan showed that a tumor was aggressively eating away the left side of her face and palate from the sinus orbit outwards. We were directed right away to Oncology where we were given the news that this was going to be the fight of our lives to keep our little girl. Rylie was immediately submersed into endless testing, scans and blood draws the rest of that week.
